Everyone has bad days and this I’m aware of- trust me, I’m completely aware of this. Sometimes though we are put through situations that turn into bad weeks, which turn into bad months, and then bad years. Situations where you honestly aren’t sure when the sun is going to finally come up on your never-ending rainy day. You think you’re ready for this type of storm, until it hits you. And once it does, it hurts worse than you ever expected.
Imagine sitting in the middle of an earthquake. Everything around you is breaking and crumbling into tiny little pieces, but all you’re able to do is sit and watch your life fall apart right in front of you. Once the earthquake is over, you then have to get up and put the pieces of what once was a beautiful picture back together no matter how much it hurts. Then you begin to realize the pieces don’t quite fit the same anymore…
You could sit and grieve over the fact that you’re now going to have to make a completely new picture, yes. I’m very much aware of how hard this can be, considering the old picture was so incredibly breathtaking you never wanted to lose it. Although that’s the thing with life... sometimes things happen to make a more incredible picture.
Think of a caterpillar and a butterfly. A caterpillar, very fuzzy and cute, and so innocent squirming across your index finger; it may be comforting to play with the caterpillar, but at some point it’s going to have to change. Even though you might not want it to, it’s going to anyway. What becomes of it, is something better I might say. It then turns into a magnificent butterfly that can now spread its unique wings and fly to wherever its heart desires.
Letting go of the caterpillar was the hardest part of that transformation. You had to let go of what it once was, so it could be what it is now meant to be. The memories don’t have to be forgotten; never do they have to be forgotten. It’s just from now on they’ll simply be memories of something that will never be again.
As you're gluing the pieces back together, remember that it’s going to take time. You’re going to have to decide what goes where, and repair some pieces that are now extremely damaged. While you’re fixing these pieces remind yourself better days are to come. And I can assure you, that better days are to come.
